How to Use Android's Nearby Share With a Mac

How to Use Android's Nearby Share With a Mac Nearby Share is a file-sharing protocol developed by Google, which is equivalent to Apple's AirDrop. It allows Android users to share files and other content easily between their devices. However, the downside is that unlike AirDrop, which is also available on Macs, Nearby Share is not supported on macOS. This makes it difficult to transfer files from your Android phone to your Mac. But there is a solution - NearDrop. NearDrop is a third-party Mac app that enables the use of Nearby Share on your Mac. Although there are certain limitations, such as only being able to send files from Android to Mac and not the other way around, NearDrop is still the easiest and most convenient way to transfer files between the two devices. How to Use Android's Nearby Share With a Mac Before setting up NearDrop Before setting up NearDrop, ensure that your Mac has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled. Download NearDrop from the GitHub page and extract it from the ZIP folder. Drag and drop the app to the Applications folder on your Mac. When you try to launch NearDrop for the first time, you may receive a warning that it cannot be opened because Apple cannot check for malicious software. To resolve this issue, open System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway for the "NearDrop was blocked from use" section. You will need to enter your Mac's password or use Touch ID for verification purposes. On the first launch of NearDrop On the first launch of NearDrop, you need to grant the app access to scan for devices on the local network and the ability to send you notifications. Once launched, NearDrop will silently run in the background, with its icon appearing on your Mac's menu bar. To send files using Nearby Share from your Android phone to your Mac, ensure that both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network. Navigate to the file you want to send and tap the Share button followed by Nearby Share. Your Mac should appear in the Nearby Share window. Tap on it to send the file. You will receive a prompt from NearDrop about a file being sent to your Mac. Click Accept to start the transfer process. Certain limitations While NearDrop has certain limitations, it still provides the most convenient way to transfer files from Android to Mac. However, it is important to note that you must have a Mac with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support to use the app. Additionally, NearDrop does not support sending files from Mac to Android. In conclusion, NearDrop is a useful tool for Android users who want to transfer files easily to their Mac. Once set up, it makes sending files from your phone to your Mac as easy as using Nearby Share for sharing files between Android and Windows. Although NearDrop has certain limitations, it is the most convenient solution for quick file transfers. How to Use Android's Nearby Share With a Mac
